THE PELIKAN ART COLLECTION IS ENRICHED WITH A NEW MASTERPIECE, INSPIRED BY THE HISTORIC POSTER ART OF RUDI ROTHER.
Following the success of the first edition featuring Glauco Cambon's vibrant design, Pelikan presents the second chapter of the Pelikan Art Collection: the SOUVERÄN® M600 PELIKAN ART COLLECTION RUDI ROTHER.

This special edition once again brings the rich visual heritage of Pelikan's historic advertising to life, this time through the bold, geometric aesthetic of artist and designer Rudi Rother. Reinterpreting his expressive poster art on the fountain pen barrel, this edition continues the journey of transforming iconic images from the past into contemporary objects of penmanship.

The convergence of art and commerce around the turn of the 20th century marked the beginning of a new era: the birth of advertising art. From that moment on, posters became the canvas on which brands could convey their messages by combining art and product. Leading avant-garde artists and designers such as El Lissitzky and Kurt Schwitters began creating commercial images with Pelikan ink and paint.
This treasure trove of advertising posters, spanning the period from 1900 to 1950, forms a special part of Pelikan's artistic heritage. It was Fritz Beindorff, Pelikan's former owner and a passionate art lover, who first recognized the creative potential of these collaborations. As early as 1898/99, he launched Pelikan's first poster competition, laying the foundation for a long-lasting dialogue between visual art and design.

Rudi Rother was a German painter and illustrator born in Hirschberg in 1863. He was known for his decorative and graphic work in the Jugendstil style, the German counterpart to Art Nouveau. His humorous pen-and-ink illustrations were particularly respected in the advertising world, with his advertisements and posters having a decisive influence on commercial art. His work was characterized by flowing lines, ornamental designs, and stylized figures. Rother died in Berlin in 1909.

This masterpiece features a striking detail: the flowing, organic pattern on the woman's dress inspired the striking, decorative design of the Rudi Rother Special Edition from the Pelikan Art Collection. The captivating hologram finish brings the fountain pen to life and gives it an irresistible appearance.

The carefully crafted barrel of the Souverän® M600 is crafted using the sophisticated "Aurora" technique. First, a brass tube is machined, engraved, and guilloched, creating fine grooves that create the unique hologram effect. Ten layers of clear varnish give the writing instrument a smooth, even surface, which, after polishing, is imprinted with the colored motif. Finally, frequent polishing ensures the high gloss of this iconic pen.
